The first batch, addressing frequently asked questions on registration, data privacy and system security, was published in the 9th Issue of eHealth News. In this issue, we will focus on common questions from patients about sharing consent and sharable data. |

Upon successful registration with the Electronic Health Record Sharing System (eHRSS) as a healthcare recipient, you can give sharing consent to authorise individual eHRSS-registered private healthcare providers (HCPs) to access your medical record in the eHR sharing platform. |
|

Q1: I have already joined eHRSS. How can I give my sharing consent to an HCP who has also participated in the system? |
|
|
You can give sharing consent to a participating HCP in person when you receive healthcare in that HCP. You can also make use of the 24-hour Interactive Voice Response System (IVRS) of the eHRSS Patient Hotline (3467 6300) by following the steps below –

Press “2” Manage Sharing Consent |

Input HKID number/ eHR number / Date of Birth / Telephone number for authentication |

Press “2” Add New Sharing Consent |

Input HCP ID and Press “1” for confirmation (HCP IDs are available at the eHRSS website) |

Please note that your sharing consents to the Hospital Authority and the Department of Health are taken to have been given when you join eHRSS.

Q2: I usually visit the same doctor for consultation. Do I need to give sharing consent to him/ her every time? |
|
|
You only need to give your sharing consent once to that HCP you would like to authorise. There are two types of sharing consent: (1) Indefinite or (2) One-year.
Indefinite sharing consent will remain valid from the date of indication until it is revoked by you, or your registration with eHRSS is withdrawn/ cancelled, whichever is earlier.
One-year sharing consent is valid for one year from the date of indication, unless it is revoked by you, or your registration with eHRSS is withdrawn/ cancelled during the one-year term. The one-year sharing consent can be renewed prior to expiry. |

Q3: Can I change or cancel my consent previously given to an HCP? If I cancel my consent, can that HCP still view my record? |
|
|
You can update (e.g. changing from one-year to indefinite term) or revoke your
consent given to an HCP at any time when you receive healthcare in that HCP.
You can also make use of the 24-hour IVRS of the eHRSS Patient Hotline
(3467 6300). Notification will be issued to you via your selected communication
means (SMS/ Email / Postal Mail) to confirm successful updating or revocation.
Upon revocation, the HCP concerned will no longer be allowed to access your
records in eHRSS or upload your new records to eHRSS. Previously uploaded
health records will be retained and available for access by other HCPs with
your sharing consent.

Q4: Once I join eHRSS, will all my health records be shared to the system? |
|
Only data within the sharable scope, as defined based on professional advice, will be shared. The current scope of sharable data includes - |

Personal identification and demographic data (including name, date of birth and identity document number etc.) |

Adverse reactions and allergies |
3) |
|
Diagnosis, procedures and medication |
4) |
|
Summary of episodes and encounters with HCPs (i.e. summary of appointments / bookings) |
5) |
|
Clinical note summary (i.e. discharge summary) |
6) |
|
Birth and immunisation records |
7) |
|
Laboratory and radiology results |
8) |
|
Other investigation results |
9) |

Referrals between HCPs |

As some HCPs would need time to adjust and gradually build up their capability to share data, at the initial stage, they may only be able to share some but not all data within the sharable scope, to be increased over time. |

For future developement, expansion of the sharable scope to include other data types such as radiological images will be pursued in Stage 2 of the eHR programme.
Q5: Can I request an HCP to filter some of my “sensitive” information and not share to eHRSS?
Filtering information uploaded to the system according to patient’s request is currently not available in eHRSS. In Stage 2 of the eHR programme, we will explore and develop features to allow patients to request for restriction on the scope of sharing of their data. |
